Yup! I actually had to tell that to someone today. They said France was weak and I was all, "NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!"
Then everyone grabbed my Civil War book and said I was stupid for hating Abe Lincoln, and I was all, "If you read this, you'll understand." He's not as awesome as people make him out to be. Like...the things the book goes over are simple things that people can pick up on, but no one does. It's super interesting and insightful.

And NO ONE seems to take in the fact that if it wasn't for France joining forces with us in the Revolutionary war that we might not have gained our independence!
Yes they are indeed! I mean I respected Abe lincoln on different levels...but I also didn't like the majority of what he did...but I really can't say I HATE him...I never met the guy!
...
Course...One could say that about Adolf Hitler but I am pretty sure without knowing him that I hate him....guess that that old saying 'you can't hate em if you don't know em' is sorta flawed... ^^;

One of my friends actually used that to support my argument. He came in and said to the other guy, "You know we wouldn't be an actual country if France didn't help us, do you?"
But, of course, I quickly added, "But just because I'm defending France doesn't mean I think they're amazing. America, man. America is the best." *waves American flag*
I respected him based on what I learned in my textbooks, but upon doing actual research for myself and stealing old books from my dad's library of 7,000 fucking books, I realized that he was a liar. A very intelligent liar. Very good with words. My favorite thing it said in the book (and I do hope I'm quoting this correctly) is, "The only way one can properly judge Lincoln is with deaf ears and alert eyes." I read it a few times and tried it myself- I threw out all of his speeches and focused on his actions and I realized...
There is nothing great about him.
True that, mate! I hate a lot of old, historical figures. Most of them are people that others raise up, and I'm just all, "NOPE!"

Yup! That and Prussia! When Von Steuben came to America he whipped those patriots into shape!! lol the conversation was priceless...
Von Steuben: *german* Do you know how to use a bayonet?
PPatriot: What?
Von Steuben: *german SLOWLY* DO. YOU. KNOW. HOW. TO. USE. A. BAYONET?
Patriot: I'm sorry sir I only speak french!
Von Steuben: *facepalm then talks in French...*
LOL...Then they replied that all they did with them was dug holes with them...ANOTHER facepalm...boy was his work cut out for him!!! I laugh every time I read about it!!!
I repsected the fact that he never gave up despite having many failures. MANY.
He was a lawyer...what do you expect? An HONEST lawyer? Pshhh...in what society?
Yeah same here...but you know sometimes you have to considered THEIR positions at times...I mean with some you they are irredeemable but the others they were pressured...a nation breathing down their necks and from that pressure and stress mde bad mistakes...

von Steuben was awesome. I have this old book with him, actually, titled Washington and His Generals. Granted, Lafayette is still my favorite, but, yes. Prussian general FTW. However, I think we might have won even without him. The French were of more help to us. XD
BUT! He did whip them into shape pretty quickly.
No, Lincoln actually didn't have many failures. His main goal was to wage war on the South. The Confederacy did try to make peace multiple times. The trade would have been very beneficial for both sides, and it would have worked out. Even the abolitionists, who all hated the South, were relieved once the Southern states started to secede, 'cause they knew that meant everything would be okay, peace would be made, and they would still be strong together. But Lincoln just wanted to destroy the economic prosperity the South had going on.
Sorry. I won't get into it too much. If you like the Civil War as much as I do, though, seriously...read War For What. It's an amazing book.
I agree with that. I understand their positions and the circumstances. I just hate how they dealt with such things. For example, Benedict Arnold. Poor guy. I would feel horrible for him, and I would respect him above nearly everyone who fought in the Revolution, but the fact that he turned traitorous because of the shit he went through makes me angry. He seriously could have been praised as one of our best generals, but the way he dealt with it was wrong.
Anyway...I ought to go to bed. I'm sleepy. X'D Night! Nice talk with ya!

Lafayette was AMAZING,,,He's one of the reasons why I am glad to have French blood in me!!
YUP!! He did the GERMAN WAY!! (K Prussian way but still the same!!)
You know what...I think I will!! It sounds very informative!! Not the biggest fan to be honest but will still make an effort to learn more!
